Oklahoma off-road law basics

Pointers for riders crossing into eastern Oklahoma.

Registration

Oklahoma Statutes 47-1115.3 require ATVs, utility vehicles and motorcycles used exclusively off road to be registered once with Service Oklahoma within 30 days of purchase, with exceptions for older machines and agricultural exemptions. The administrative code sets out the procedure.

Street-legal UTVs

The same statute requires utility vehicles meeting the street-legal definition to be registered, plated and decaled before use on streets, county roads and state highways.

National forest

On the Ouachita NF, including its Oklahoma Ranger District, ride only on routes the current MVUM shows open to your vehicle.
