What the official page says

  • Originally a horse trail, now shared with OHVs, hikers and mountain bikes, so expect horses on the trail.
  • The Forest Service warns that crossings on Big Shoal Creek can be difficult at high water.
  • Sign in at the trail registration boxes, which the Forest Service asks riders to use for monitoring and safety.
  • Part of FS Road 1604 (Shoal Creek Road) is permanently closed by a landslide, per the current conditions notice.

Before you go

  • Check weather and recent rain: creeks and wet-weather closures are the big Ozark variables. See seasons and weather.
  • Pack recovery basics and know how to use them. See recovery gear.
  • Know your state's machine registration and road rules. See state laws.
